Warren Freer Park – Synthetic Turf Softball Diamond
Project: Warren Freer Park – Synthetic Turf Softball Diamond
Client: Ramblers Sotfball
Construction & Development
NZSTI was commissioned by Ramblers Softball to lead the development of a new 3G synthetic softball diamond at Warren Freer Park in St Lukes. Currently there are two synthetic softball diamonds in Auckland; both are designed to be able to cope with higher frequency of play than a standard softball diamond without compromising the playing characteristics. The scope of works included consent application, drainage design, base design, synthetic turf layout design, fencing design and project management of the physical works.
An initial site investigation revealed that the best way to maximise the use of the site the softball diamond was recessed into the slope on the far side of the sportsfield at Warren Freer Park. This meant that the rest of the field could be used for other sports such as soccer over the winter period.
High quality construction and turf were installed. Building Consent inspections completed and signed off. Code Compliance application lodged. Materials delivered to site tested in NZSTI Laboratory and approved against Technical Specification.
The construction timeline was met which allowed the client to maximise use of the fields over the busy winter soccer months. By installing synthetic turf the club have been able to increase usage of the fields without compromising the quality of the surface.
