Construction & Development
Rangitoto College, New Zealand’s largest secondary school, opened its doors in 1956. NZSTI was the principal designer involved in upgrading winter performance of two of the five sportsfields at the school.
Rangitoto College contacted NZSTI and requested a review of the two playing fields. The study showed that the existing drainage infrastructure was suitable for reuse, reducing overall project costs. Additional drainage and a sand carpet was installed, allowing use of the fields throughout winter for physical education and winter sports team training. During winter, some 150 teams across 7 sports involving 1400 students utilise this facility.
The installation of a new irrigation system ensures high quality turf is maintained throughout the summer playing season.
The client was happy with the outcome and especially that the project came in on budget.
