Construction & Development
When Pakuranga College needed to add an all weather sporting surface to the schools resources, they commissioned NZSTI to ensure their project was a success. The new facility means they can provide playing facilities no matter what the weather brings. The new synthetic turf also creates additional income for the college by local club use after hours.
This project was for the development of a new synthetic turf surface to be laid on to existing asphalt tennis courts and as a second stage a 6 ½ court concrete basketball area. The asphalt had been used for several years as an overflow carpark for the school so some major works were required to dig out an area of asphalt and relay. NZSTI services included consent application, drainage design, base design, synthetic turf layout design, fencing design and project management of the physical works.
An initial site investigation revealed that the soils underneath the asphalt area to be repaired had lost its structure due to being used as a carpark. The area had to be undercut and new construction profile installed by the Contractor. The undercut materials were kept onsite and were used to build up the surrounds of the synthetic turf area reducing costs to the college.
