Project: Cobham Oval
Client: Whangarei District Council
In 2012, Cobham Oval became the newest of New Zealand’s ODI enues when the Black Caps played Zimbabwe there. The Black Caps won comfortably and the quality of the wicket and outfield received lavish praise from the players and commentators. Subsequently in 2013, Cobham Oval was used for two warm-up T-20 games when England played NZ A.
This is a completely new Cobham Oval – it replaces the old Cobham Oval that was located further to the north. NZSTI’s role in this project was to carry out a site assessment on the proposed site and then prepare detailed specifications for the construction of the entire oval (cricket block, cricket outfield, practice blocks, drainage irrigation and turf establishment).
It is now regarded as one of the best 1st class cricket ovals in New Zealand.
