The golf course quality auditing service uses a range of objective scientific measurements to evaluate the playing and agronomic condition of a golf course. Measurements can be carried out on specific areas (greens) or across the entire golf course.
The audits assess both direct components of playing quality (e.g. green speed, green firmness, green smoothness, quality of fairway lie, overall turf quality) and characteristics that are of agronomic importance (e.g. organic matter levels, root depth, water retention, drainage rate, etc). As part of this process, appropriate targets for each golf course are set (e.g. target ranges for green speed and firmness) and performance is monitored.
The process helps to identify realistic quality standards for individual golf courses (given budgetary and other site factors). It can also be used to educate players about realistic course conditioning expectations or the requirement for renovation. Regular monitoring of golf course quality will bench mark trends. Falling quality can be detected at an early stage and then arrested before it becomes an issue for players. The golf course quality auditing service enables bench marking between golf courses so that management can gauge the quality of their “product”.
